Scholarship Criteria Criteria for Recipients of the Bernard Smith Memorial Scholarship • Must be a Christian, attend a congregation in the tri-county area (Broward, Dade or Palm Beach) • Active in youth activities • Participate in bible classes/worship services • Exhibit Christian characteristics and behavior • Graduating senior in high school • Graduate with a ‘B’ average • Must be continuing their education (vocational school, community college or university) • Complete scholarship application • Submit a 1(one) page typed essay on EITHER, “How Has Being a Christian Changed My Life for the Better? ” OR “I plan to give back to my congregation and/or local community by….” INCLUDE at least a paragraph regarding your spiritual and educational goals; report card; and college acceptance letter. • Submit a letter of recommendation from the Minister or Youth Director of your congregation. • Submit on letterhead a letter of recommendation from one of your teachers or the administrative staff of your high school. Box 1738 Hallandale Beach, Fl 33008 DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: SUNDAY, JUNE 6, 2010 NOTE: All materials must be received together. Any incomplete packets or packets received after the submission deadline will not be considered for the scholarship. Currently 2 students will be awarded: one from the Hallandale Beach congregation and one from the pool of applicants from congregations in the tri-county area. Scholarship awards are in the amount of $1,000.00. The recipient(s) will be recognized at the banquet and an account will be arranged with the financial aid department of the accepting learning institution to be used toward tuition and books. If there are no qualifying applicants based on the above criteria, the scholarship amount will be rolled to the following year.
